Public Service Announcement from a Grammar Gremlin

A short PSA this afternoon:

The plural of "rabbi" is "rabbis." NOT "rabbi's."

Please don't mistake possessives for plurals. "Rabbi's" makes me wonder what the rabbi owns.

That is all.

Sincerely,
The Grouchy Grammar Gremlin

  1. The plural of rabbi, I believe, is rabbanim.

I do agree with you that the incorrect use of apostrophes is both confusing and annoying. Don't get me started on why the express lane in the supermarket should say "X items or fewer" rather than "X items or less."

In English, the plural is rabbis. It's an English word too!
